Jonathan Barnes
CEOJonathan’s family business was cotton spinning in the north-west, but he started his career in the law. He joined City law firm DJ Freeman in 1987 and specialised in commercial property. Clients ranged from the developers of Spitalfields, opposite Liverpool Street station, to overseas institutional investors, entrepreneurial private property companies and listed occupiers. Jonathan was made partner at DJ Freeman before moving to Lewis Silkin in 2001. Jonathan acted for Woodsford Commercial Properties during the property recession of the 1990s and helped the company acquire a mixed-use and UK-wide portfolio of real estate assets. In 2007/8 he led the successful sale of Europa Park, Central Europe’s premier single location logistics and distribution centre, against the backdrop of a deepening credit crunch.
